Practice Groups
Our Practice Groups are co-led by Alliance Members representing the global North and South and with specialized legal knowledge required to identify and implement comprehensive legal solutions alongside our affected communities and individuals. Together, these lawyers have decades of experience in national, regional, and international legal and non-legal mechanisms.
Our Alliance Members drive systems change in the legal field, transform how legal services are provided, and share lessons learned in our communities and around the world. This unique mix of legal actors and experts ensures increased access to the most impactful avenues of justice.
Banking & Atrocity Crimes
From Sudan to Ukraine, it is clear that mass atrocities require mass funding. While there has been notable progress in holding corporations accountable for their involvement in human rights abuses, the role of financial actors, especially financial institutions, has largely been overlooked. Our lawyers in the Banking & Atrocity Crimes Practice Group have expertise in financial investigations, anti-money laundering laws, anti-corruption laws, and International Criminal Law. They work at this intersection to advocate for policy changes and hold financial institutions, war profiteers, kleptocrats, and others accountable for financing atrocities and related crimes.

Environmental Crimes & Climate Crisis

International criminal law has great potential to influence events of global concern - it can make an important contribution to environmental justice and, indirectly, carbon emissions. We investigate situations involving destruction of the natural environment and harm to dependent communities. We litigate on behalf of affected communities to bring perpetrators to justice.

Anti-Human Trafficking & Exploitation
We apply a victim-centered and rights-based approach in cross-border litigations on behalf of victims of human trafficking. Our innovative methodology results in communities being able to participate in their own cases more meaningfully and effectively, in better communications between lawyers and clients, and in community and survivor-led decision-making. Our lawyers in the Anti-Human Trafficking and Exploitation Practice Group have diverse legal backgrounds and experiences. Our Co-Heads are based in Southeast Asia where they have trained thousands of lawyers, law enforcement officials, government officials, the private sector, and civil society through the Legal Impact Hub.

Litigation & Investigation

Our lawyers and investigators in the Litigation & Investigation Practice Group specialize in complex legal matters, ranging from International Criminal Law, Human Rights, and civil compensation under Torts Law. Together, we have decades of experience in domestic courts, ad hoc tribunals, regional and UN human rights mechanisms, universal jurisdiction cases in foreign domestic courts, the International Criminal Court, and more. Working alongside communities, civil society, and in certain cases, law enforcement, we document atrocities, human rights abuses, exploitation, corruption, and other harm and then utilize all available legal mechanisms to seek redress.
